Supreme Dragonwell green tea, also known as Longjing tea, is a high-quality Chinese green tea that is highly prized for its delicate flavor, unique appearance, and cultural significance. It is one of China’s most famous and celebrated teas.
Primarily produced in the West Lake region of Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, China, Supreme Dragonwell tea is made from the tender, young leaves of the Camellia sinensis plant, which are hand-picked in early spring. The leaves undergo a meticulous process of hand-firing in a hot wok to stop oxidation and preserve their fresh, green color and delicate flavor.
The name “Dragonwell”, or “Longjing”, translates to “Dragon’s Well,” referring to the legend of a well near a dragon’s lair in Hangzhou. According to the legend, the movement of the dragon’s body while drinking water from the well caused the tea leaves to dance, giving rise to the unique flat and smooth appearance of the tea leaves.
Supreme Dragonwell green tea is characterized by its smooth, buttery texture, sweet and nutty flavor profile, and distinctive chestnut-like aroma. It has a mellow and lingering aftertaste with subtle floral notes. The tea liquor is typically pale yellow-green in color. It may also offer potential health benefits due to its antioxidant content and nutrient profile, similar to other green teas.
